As a Contractor in the Program, you must have a policy that covers the protection of human rights.

At a minimum it must indicate that you will:

  • follow all local laws and regulations.

  • respect workers' rights included in the International Labour Organisation ("ILO") Core Labour Conventions.

  • commit to respecting human rights as indicated in the United Nations ("UN") Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights

  • avoid and not engage in, support, or tolerate discrimination in employment practices.

  • not support or tolerate the use of threats of corporal punishment, mental or physical coercion, bullying, harassment or abuse of any kind.

  • check that no worker is held in debt bondage or forced to work for an employer, labour recruiter or other entity to pay off debt.

  • prohibit any involvement in any act of corruption, extortion, embezzlement, as well as any form of direct or indirect bribery.

The contents of this policy must be communicated to your workers and reviewed every 3 years.

TIPS:

  • Cover this policy in your workers induction and training records

  • Add a clause to your employment agreements that ensures your workers are familiar with and will comply with company policies

  • Attach a copy of the policy to employment agreements

  • Print the policy out and display it in a shared space
