Fertiliser Storage

Fertilisers must be stored in compliance with NZS 8409:2004 (ensuring that hazard and risk areas are identified), separately from plant protection products. Foliar fertilisers can be stored in the same shed, as long as they are sealed and stored separately.

Fertilisers must be stored in a clean, dry, covered area, at least 10m away from watercourses or secured with retention walls with 110 per cent bundling (spill containment system) for all liquid fertilisers. All organic matter must be stored at least 25m from watercourses.

Foliar fertilisers can be stored in the same shed, as long as they are sealed and stored separately.

Fertilisers must not be stored near fruit at any time (consider bin loading areas and proximity to fertiliser storage).

There must be an up-to-date fertiliser inventory accessible, which must be updated within a month of stock movement (i.e. anything in or out of the store).
